Transcript

The purpose of this video is to demonstrate how VIN2 gives users the ability to manage the FMVSS safety standards, both globally by vehicle type, and for individual vehicles that differ slightly from the standard.

Background information about the need to manage the standards can be found in the video titled “Why do I need to change….”

The first step to changing either the Global settings that will be automatically applied to newly entered vehicles or changing a standard for an individual vehicle, is to login to VIN2.

Once logged in, the Active Vehicle screen is displayed.

Let’s start with changing the Global, or default, Standards. These are the standards that are automatically assigned to a vehicle when it is entered into VIN2 and are dependent on the Vehicle Type. Please note that changing the Global settings can only be performed by the highest level login. Other users do not have access to this ability.

We start by clicking the “System”, then “Conformity Configs” options.

This displays a summary screen of the Global settings for Vehicle Type - Buses. These are the settings that will be applied when users enter a Bus.

To select a different Vehicle Type, click in the Vehicle type box and select the appropriate choice. This will update the Summary screen to display the Global settings for the selected type.

To change the Global settings for this Vehicle Type, click the Edit button next to the standard to be modified.

Next, click the radio button for the new Standard to be applied for all future vehicles of the selected Vehicle Type and click the Save button. All new vehicles of this vehicle type will be assigned the new standard. Existing vehicles will not be affected.

In addition to modifying the Global standard, VIN2 stores and displays a change log, allowing the review of the changes made, the login making the change and the date of the change. The summary page shows the most recent change. Clicking the “View Change Log” option displays the entire change history.

Once all the changes have been made, click the “RI Input Vehicle Input” option to return to the Active Vehicles screen.

Part 2.

Changing standards for individual vehicles.

Sometimes, due to the particulars of a specific vehicle, the Global standards do not reflect the whole truth and one or more standards needs to be changed, FOR THAT VEHICLE ONLY.

To do that, we start by clicking the “Conformity Configs” option for the specific vehicle once the vehicle has been entered into VIN2.

This displays a summary screen of the standards applied to the particular vehicle, as well as the VIN number of the vehicle being changed and the Vehicle Type for reference.

To change standards this vehicle, click the Edit button next to the standard to be modified.

Next, click the radio button for the new Standard to be applied and click the Save button. This does not affect the Global settings, nor does it affect any other existing vehicles. Only the selected vehicle is changed.
